Hello parents, students, alum’s, and friends.
My name is Tommy Loera, and I will be serving as the Director of Athletics at Salesian for the 2014-15 school year. I’m very humbled to be in this position at my alma mater with the goal to provide our student athletes with the best athletic experience possible during their time here at Salesian.
This past summer, our basketball, baseball, and soccer programs all participated in various summer leagues and tournaments. It was very exciting to see our student athletes compete in these leagues, especially those who will be entering the freshman class in the next few weeks. Our athletes who participated in our summer programs have the displayed dedication and commitment to their respective programs even though it is their off-season. Way to go guys!!
I would also like to welcome our new varsity coaches to these programs.
Basketball: Theodore Fletcher
Baseball: David Sifuentes
Soccer: Jerry Villasenor
With the football season approaching, the 2013 CIF Northeast Champions, under the reign of coach Angelo Jackson have been hard at work in the weight room and on the field as they prepare for their 2014 campaign. The Mustangs arguably have one of the toughest schedules in the schools history this season with opponents that include, Pasadena Muir, Claremont, View-park, Loyola, and Bakersfield, to make up the pre-season.
After competing in the Santa Fe League for the past four plus seasons, the Mustangs will be competing in the Angelus league along with Cathedral, Harvard Westlake (Studio City), La Salle (Pasadena), St. Francis (La Canada) and St. Paul (Santa Fe Springs). This should be a very competitive league season with some exciting plays on the field by our student athletes. If you would like to view the 2014 schedule please check out school website http://www.mustangsla.org. Football opens up the season against Pasadena Muir, August 29 at Salesian,
Coming off another historic season and living up to the rich running tradition established by Brother Tom, Coach Justin Torres and the Cross Country team have been logging int the miles on streets of Los Angeles and on trails of Griffith Park as the teams prepares for its season. The Mustangs open their campaign September 6 at the St. Vrain Invitational in Boulder. Currently the team is up in Mammoth CA, doing their high altitude training. We wish them safe travels.
In closing, I would like to welcome all of you to the 2014-15 athletics season and hope to see you at our events.
